A Welcome from the Headteacher

It is a privilege to be Headteacher at Buckler’s Mead Academy helping to shape the lives of young people as they discover their wealth of talents.  I am extremely proud of our students and of our staff.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in 2018 stated that:

Pupils feel safe and cared for well.
The school has an inclusive ethos.
The school is always looking to improve the outcomes for pupils.
The school has a friendly atmosphere.
Pupils are supported well and making good progress.”

The staff and Board of Directors are committed to ensuring the success of all students and this continues to be an exciting time for the academy as we continue on our journey to ‘Outstanding’.

We continue to build on our successes and, as an academy, we have set ourselves the target of being outstanding in all we do.  Buckler’s Mead Academy is a great place to learn and to work and we want all members of the academy community to be proud of it.  If, like us, you would like to make a real difference to the lives and opportunities of our students, then we look forward to receiving your application and inviting you to join a very supportive team of staff who enjoy their work.

As an 11 – 16 academy we offer a wide range of courses.  We expect the majority of our students to achieve 5 or more good GCSE passes including English and Maths.  We also offer a very supportive personalised learning experience to enable all students to achieve success and to progress post 16.

Whether you wish to apply to Buckler’s Mead Academy in a teaching role or as a member of support staff we expect all our staff to place the needs of students at the centre of their work.  At the risk of offending some we do not seek to appoint members of staff who ‘want a job’.  We are seeking members of our team who are fully committed to what we believe in and want to join us to build a future at Buckler’s Mead Academy.

Our staff are hard-working and very positive.  We are committed to their professional development and offer opportunities for leadership development at all levels.  We are recognised ‘Investors in People’, having been awarded this award eight times for the quality of our staff development.

Yeovil is situated in a beautiful part of South Somerset, with easy access to country parks, fantastic coastline and seaside resorts.  Road and rail links are good.  All these things combine to make Buckler’s Mead Academy a fantastic place to be.  If you feel you would like to be part of our team, then I look forward to hearing from you.
