Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Bucklers Mead

Mr Mark Lawrence
Acting Headteacher

It is with great pleasure I write as the Acting Headteacher of Buckler’s Mead Academy. Having been part of this Academy since October 2002, it is a privilege to be able to lead the academy into the next phase of its development.

Buckler’s Mead Academy is an excellent, caring, community academy where we all want the very best for every student and we constantly strive to improve. All staff here, whether teaching or non-teaching, work extremely hard to ensure that all students regardless of their background have high expectations and are supported to achieve the very best they can.We recognise young people develop at different rates, have differing hopes and ambitions, and will go onto a range of career paths.

We aim to ensure that young people are exposed to a wealth of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom in an academy that places a strong emphasis on the development of well-rounded individuals of whom the staff and parents can feel justifiably proud. Visitors regularly comment on the warm, friendly and positive relationships between staff and students and within the student body itself, which are immediately apparent and a hallmark of Buckler’s Mead.  Young people learn in an environment where creative and engaging lessons are delivered by a dedicated team of staff. Our expectations extend beyond the classroom to include attendance, punctuality, uniform and attitude to learning, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Ofsted visited us in June 2018 and we were delighted to receive good judgments across every category. Positive comments included, ‘the school has a friendly atmosphere’, ‘pupils feel safe and cared for’, and ‘leaders are passionate about the school and provide confident leadership’.

There is a wide range of opportunities available for students to develop outside of the classroom including blacksmithing, drama, the arts, sport, technology, languages, raising money for charity, being a student receptionist or prefect. Many of our students are also involved in community projects such as leading sports events in the area, hosting visiting groups and entering local competitions.

If you would like to visit this Academy to see what we are so proud of please feel free to contact the office and make an appointment, we would be delighted to meet you!
