A purpose built music block was opened in 2004 which consists of a very large main teaching room plus a second music technology room. In addition there are three practice rooms and a large instrument storage area.
The main teaching areas have interactive whiteboards, recording equipment and a fabulous sound system, as well as being designed so as to cut down on reflected sound. Curtains all around the room aid the problem of sound bouncing around the walls. Practice rooms are equipped with a range of music equipment- upright pianos, digital pianos, Sonor drum kit and a variety of guitar and keyboard amps. All rooms are sound insulated to prevent as much sound leakage as possible.
The department currently offers lessons in a wide range of instruments, all lessons being taught as either individual or paired lessons.
A range of extra-curricular opportunities are available with a number of school and public performances taking place each year.
